Traffic Circles:

Traffic circles are a great example of non-traditional intersections.

Traffic circles are where multiple streets meet at a circle median. They are controlled by yield signs rather than by stop signs or streetlights. Traffic circles reduce the risk of a crash by slowing traffic down and having traffic flow in one direction. Give the right-of-way to drivers that are already in the circle. Don’t worry, you can be in the circle too. If you promise to watch out for pedestrians and bicyclists, you’re in.
